ABOUT

Why should I come to an Expressive Movement class?

There are many reasons for coming to an Expressive Movement class and they are not the same for every person. In an Expressive Movement class we experiment with music, dance, our movement, the expression of emotions through non-verbal communication, the connection with ourselves and with those around us, the exploration of our possibilities... We even benefit from the physical exercise, which is actually part of a lesson. Every class is different, but one thing is certain: that we always leave with our mood changed.

What is its purpose?

There are as many purposes as there are participants in an Expressive Movement class. It helps us explore emotions, express ourselves and create a bridge of communication with our inner self and the world around us, with the ultimate purpose of strengthening self-awareness and improving physical, mental and emotional health. All the above in an inclusive environment, a safe space that permits us let ourselves in the transformative power of the group and ultimately have a good time.

Rio Abierto

The Rio Abierto Method was created in 1966 by Argentine psychologist Maria Adela Palcos as a set of body-mind therapy techniques, drawing elements from the fields of Performing and Visual Arts, as well as Psychology. It quickly spread to many countries in Latin America and Europe with highly successful applications in education, mental health, arts and communication.
In Spanish Rio Abierto means “Open River”. Its name reflects its essence: to give participants the opportunity to open up to free movement, expression, communication and self-awareness, through the therapeutic properties of physical expression, dance, movement, play. It is based on the principle of movement and pulsation as the basic properties of every living organism, on the unity of human existence with the surrounding world and on the values of freedom and trust in the possibilities of human nature.
Through the merging of expressive movement, creative dance, music / sound, visual arts, and other elements such as dramatization, play, body alignment, massage, relaxation, self-observation, sharing and the transformative power of the group, the Río Abierto Method aims to explore emotions, express oneself and create a bridge of communication with our inner self and the world around us, with the ultimate goal of strengthening self-awareness and improving physical, mental and emotional health.
